ABOUT

ABOUT

IMG_8355.jpg

I Love Cats.  All Cats.

I have spent a life time living with, loving and caring for cats.  My love for animals was instilled in me at an early age thanks to my parents.  My childhood home in Elkhart was not only filled with our family pets, but also provided refuge for stray cats, abandoned dogs and orphaned or injured wildlife.

Many moons ago I moved to Chicago to pursue my design career. Upon arrival in the Windy City, I became involved in the Chicago rescue scene.  I began as a cat care volunteer and foster for PAWS Chicago. I harnessed what I learned during those years as a volunteer and in 2006 co-founded Chicago Cat Rescue where I led the marketing and development and supported the day-to-day operations of cat care. Fast forward 10 years, and I was invited to join the Development and Marketing team at Tree House Humane Society, Chicago’s largest cat-only shelter.  In 2018, I founded Kaleidocats so that I could dedicate my time to helping cats in need and providing the very best care for them. After living in and loving Chicago for 26 years, I made the decision to return to my hometown of Elkhart so that I could be closer to my family. During the summer of 2022, I packed up all of my belongings, my cats and my love for taking care of them - drove east - and relaunched Kaleidocats in Indiana.

I am hopelessly devoted to my own motley crew of felines consisting of varying ages, needs and temperaments.  I am an active member of the TNR (Trap Neuter Return) community and have an affinity for feral, hard to handle and shy cats. Over the years, I have TNR'd hundreds of cats, raised many orphaned neonates and fostered hundreds of kittens and adult cats. Needless to say, I take my work home with me every night - and I wouldn’t have it any other way

Thank you for considering Kaleidocats.  I'm always available for questions and very much looking forward to meeting you and your cat(s).

FAQ
Do you offer every other day visits?

No. For your cat(s) to receive the best care and for us to keep an eye on them properly, the minimum requirement is one visit per day. If you have a kitten(s) that is younger than 6 months-old, we require a minimum booking of two visits per day.

What time do you visit?

Visiting hours are between 8 am and 8 pm. We do our best to visit your cat at the same time each day. We appreciate your understanding that clients with medical needs or specifically timed medications need to be given priority within the schedule.

How much notice do I need to give?

For new clients, please contact us regarding your pending time away from home at least 72 hours in advance. This gives us time to schedule the meet and greet, acquire the keys, and arrange payment.

For existing clients, we appreciate as much notice as possible, especially for services needed during peak times. Kaleidocats likely is able to accommodate same day requests given the existing relationship.

What should I expect during the Meet and Greet with Kaleidocats?

The initial Meet and Greet is complimentary and typically last about 20 minutes. During this time, we will accomplish the following:

  • Meet the owner of Kaleidocats and your primary caregiver.

  • You will give us a tour of your cat’s environment, show us where supplies are, and outline your cat’s specific care needs.

  • Kaleidocats will receive two copies of your keys and address any questions you may have.

  • Together, we will review the Terms and Conditions and complete a vet release form.

What happens if there's an emergency with my cat?

If there is a health concern with your cat, you will be alerted immediately. If necessary, your cat will be taken to the vet (chargeable). The vet release form completed during the Meet and Greet gives Kaleidocats authorization to take your cat to the vet, if required.

Can you administer medication to my cat(s) and how much extra does this cost?

We have extensive experience administering all forms of medications. There is no additional charge for administering medicines during our visits. For visits requiring non-medication supportive care, such as subcutaneous fluids, assist/syringe feeding, bladder expression, wound cleaning or other treatments that require extended time, an additional $5 per every 15 minutes is assessed in the fee.

How do I know that you've visited and my cat is ok?

Daily updates and photos (or videos) will be sent to you via text or email, unless you request otherwise.

What forms of payment are accepted?

Electronic payments can be made using Chase Quickpay, Zelle or Venmo upon completion of services.  Payments by cash or check must be left for us to pick up at your home during the time of service.

Do you charge extra for holidays or peak time visits?

We do not charge extra for visits made on holidays or during peak times. However, due to high demand, holiday and peak time visits may be shortened in order to accommodate all of our clients.

Will I have the same cat sitter caring for my cat(s)?

The sitter that you meet during your Meet and Greet will be your primary caregiver. There may be times that a substitute is required. Your primary caregiver will inform you ahead of time if there will be a substitute.

Do you charge extra to take care of my foster cats or kittens?

Our care for foster cats or kittens in addition to your resident kitties is complimentary. Thank you for fostering!

Do you only take care of cats? My household also has a dog, fish, bunny, chicken, hamster, guinea pig, lizard, bird, etc.

We do not provide any services for dogs. If your household has a small animal that needs care, we will consider providing services for that animal as well. Additional charges may apply.

Is Kaleidocats registered and insured?
